BBB Serving Southern Alberta and East Kootenays were joined by 200 local business leaders to honour seven outstanding businesses at the 2010 Business Ethics Awards.

“As a champion of marketplace trust, BBB seeks not only to advise consumers about questionable business practices, but also to celebrate those companies that are leading the way in our community,” said Barry Baim, President and CEO of BBB Serving Southern Alberta.  “The Business Ethics Awards are one way we can accomplish that goal – and the winners this year are truly deserving of recognition… they have earned it.”

Four businesses received honourable mentions, while three were recipients of the prestigious Business Ethics Awards:

SMALL BUSINESS (25 or fewer employees)

Honourable Mentions:  BASEMENT SYSTEMS CALGARY INC.
                                 SOUTHWEST CERTIGARD

Winner:    NUCLEUS INFORMATION SERVICES INC.
Our judges were impressed by this company’s team building program, exceptional commitment to charity work; the 35 testimonial letters they provided spoke to their good reputation amongst customers and colleagues.

MEDIUM BUSINESS (26 to 75 employees)

Honourable Mention: WILLIAMS MOVING & STORAGE LTD.

Winner:                       FITZ FLOORING
This company’s customer service philosophy made an impression on our judges, as did their generous charity work.  They are a well-rounded company, and supportive of their employees, in part through their ‘four-way test’ designed to empower their staff members to make the right decisions.

LARGE BUSINESS (76 or more employees)

Honourable Mention: CROWFOOT DODGE CHRYSLER INC.

Winner:    MOUNTAIN EQUIPMENT CO-OP
This company is the total package, and the judges commented on their demonstrated leadership at all levels.  They have an impressive orientation program, a long history of supporting local charities, and a distinct focus on helping to improve the environment.

This year’s blue-ribbon panel of judges consists of Retired Judge Michael H. Porter of Calgary; George Yates, Director of Consumer Programs, Service Alberta; and Wendelin Fraser, Dean of the Bisset School of Business at Mount Royal University.
