Q: What is a Voice Response System?
A: A Voice Response System (VRS) is a computer program that answers telephone calls from consumers who call your BBB to hear a company Business Review, to get consumer tips or to report a complaint or a scam. The program guides the caller through a series of menus helping them to access the information they require from the thousands of reports and tips available.

Q: Why does BBB have a Voice Response System?
A: Several years ago, BBB found that there were so many calls from people wanting to have a Business Review read to them that the staff answering the phones didn't have enough time to take care of the serious business of investigating scams and concilliating complaints. To resolve the problem, BBB installed it's VRS, making reports and general consumer information available to the public 24 hours a day, while directing consumers needing to make a complaint or report a scam right through to speak to a Trade Practice Consultant.

Q: How do I use the VRS?
A: The key to making the most of the services provided by the VRS is patience. Simply dial (403) 517-4222 at any time of the day or night and recorded menu options will guide you to the information you need. If you are looking for information on a company the VRS will prompt you to enter the company's area code and phone number and the VRS will automatically select the required report to be read. If you need to speak to a Trade Practice Consultant, you can be transferred through to that departments. A voice mail message can be left if your call is after hours.

Q: Is it true that BBB charges callers a fee to use the VRS?
A: There is NO fee to listen to company reports or consumer tips or to lodge a complaint, and you can make up to three inquiries on one phone call. Consumer services are paid for by the BBB Accredited Businesses of Southern Alberta and East Kootenays.
